Located in Denver, Colorado, 16th Chestnut is a 19-story office tower that lends new possibilities for iconic architecture and sustainable development to the heavily occupied area. It displays a stunning glass curtain wall wrapped around the exterior from head-to-toe with two levels of underground parking and five levels of above-ground parking. Residing next to the Millennium Bridge and Union Station, this structure acts as a central hub for commuters entering and exiting the downtown region.

Gensler Architects’ design intent for the building was for it “to convey a timeless and intelligent elegance” featuring a large glass curtain wall and a “rusticated” precast base helping to connect the building to the surrounding architecture. One of the building’s unique design elements is the louvre system installed on the ground floor, offering essential airflow and a bold aesthetic.

Working alongside architects at Gensler, Construction Specialties designed and customised B-7505 Bold Line Louvres with LED lights on the blades. In addition to providing proper airflow and superior water protection, these louvres leave a lasting impression on travellers who encounter the striking presentation when passing by, especially at night. The louvres are mounted the whole length of the building’s lower façade that faces the bus station, creating a ‘louvre wall’. By day, the wall can be seen as a bold architecture feature, and by night, the multi-colour LED accents illuminate the street with its dazzling combinations.

Each louvre blade was coated with one of eight specially selected colour finishes, customised in coordination with the LED lights to enhance their glowing impact when lit.
